Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia
Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead
Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia is comprised of taxpayers and pet lovers who are committed to saving all healthy and treatable companion animals in Philadelphia shelters. Using political advocacy, grassroots efforts and humane education, CNKP works with our elected officials, other non-profit groups and the public to raise awareness about creating No-Kill model that will save the lives of the 10,000+ cats, dogs and small animals that die each year in Philadelphia shelters because of overpopulation.
Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization
and was incorporated in Pennsylvania in 2009.

The most important thing that we do is to maintain a “Macro-level” view of the systems in Philadelphia, both political and institutional. We think five, ten and twenty years into the future while still working hard to improve conditions for Philadelphia’s animals today. Animal welfare in this city has been mismanaged for the past decade and it’s time someone did something different. That’s what we are advocating for and that’s what we do.
“Advocacy is the pursuit of influencing outcomes — including public-policy and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions — that directly affect people’s current lives.” (Cohen, 2001)

•Political advocacy - Turning the support of the people into an unstoppable political movement is the only way real lasting change will happen. Through public education campaigns, presenting solutions to policy makers and conducting research and assessments we seek to make Philadelphia a No-Kill city and eliminate the need for our group to exist.
•Humane education - CNKP is reaching to the future...the children of the city of Philadelphia. Many incidents of animal abuse and neglect occur simply because of ignorance. We feel that our children could make better decisions for the future if only given the proper information on which to base their decisions.
What we do - Advocacy
Who we are - your friends, your neighbors
We are a group of Philadelphia taxpayers and pet lovers who are fed up with the way our city has been treating shelter animals for the last decade. We banded together with one mission: Make Philadelphia a No-Kill City. We follow the lead of other successful movements over history and learn from victories in other cities nationwide.
